D'ya think??

The musings and understandable concerns of one who keeps his ear close to the ground.

Does anyone know who is in charge of running our government?? It clearly doesn't seem to be the guy we hired (elected) to take care of that.
Why has no one asked what that grand give-away is doing to the Social Security Trust Fund - which reportedly is already running low??
The Turnage is about to close. Of course it is. Are there any among us who believe that the powers to be in and around Washington (is it Little Washington or Original Washington??) are going to let that happen??
We keep hearing from the anointed one and his surrogates that "the rich" need to pay their "fair share" of taxes. I suspect there are a lot of folks who believe that is something everyone should be doing.
We would seem to be faced with an administration that is determined to foment class warfare. I hope it remains figurative - but after seeing what went on in Oakland CA, I'm beginning to wonder if that's possible.
Have there been some "funny things" going on around the White House lately?? All of a sudden the Prez has been talking about the virtues of free trade.
The Environmental Opportunist group is composed of both faux environmentalists and faux venture capitalists.
Except for the few words which I have omitted, the following is quoted from a presidential news conference on 10/13/11.
When the government shutdown was averted with the agreement on the Continuing Resolution, we heard claims of another "first" for the current administration; a reduction in spending.
So what about the "Wall Street Protestors"?? Do they have a point?? Maybe. It looks a lot like Woodstock without the rain and mud; well, the mud anyway.
How do we allow ourselves to be taken advantage of so regularly?? The continuing - but so far seemingly unsuccessful - war on poverty is a good case in point.
When we look at what the anointed one and his henchmen are proposing to do ( spend) to alleviate the problem of high unemployment, it certainly looks like they are trying to do just that; find the end of a hoop. Do you suppose they will ever realize that a hoop has no beginning and no end??
After a lot of bickering we finally agreed on a bi-partisan approach to identify how we should go about getting our National finances back in order.
For years and years, seniors have been conditioned to reflexively resist any changes, no matter how minuscule, having to do with Social Security. Historical note to politicians: Fool with Social Security at your own risk. Those days may be gone.
From now until the end of the year (and probably longer than that) we are going to be hearing more than we ever wanted to about budgeting, continuing resolutions, appropriations, and most disconcerting of all, the political mathematics used in getting from one to the other.
It never fails to amaze me how good the Dems are at out foxing the long suffering taxpayers and how so many of us keep buying into their almost always misleading and frequently fallacious arguments.
In between his $35,000 a plate fund raisers, the prez says he is turning his attention to improving the employment situation - or more specifically, the unemployment situation.
Do you suppose anyone in the mainstream press really listens when people speak. Or does their listening tend to be somewhat "selective"??
Being a lawyer just doesn't seem to be quite as good a job as it used to be.
Here we go again with Judge Manning weighing in on the legislature's deliberations as if it was any of his business as a judge. As a taxpayer, yes; but as a judge, no
A year of so ago, pile driving on the Rte. 17 bypass bridge across the Tar River was stopped while anadromous fish made their way up the river to perform their annual mating rituals.
For the last couple of weeks we have been hearing ad nauseam about the debt ceiling, defaulting on our debt, the Boehner plan, the McConnell Plan, the Reid Plan, and of course, the Prez' "big deal" plan.
It's interesting. We hear Standard & Poor's (S&P) telling us that we need to do something to get our financial act together. We hear Moody's Investor's Service telling us the same thing.
The Republicans may have taken over the NC legislature for the first time in a long time, but the idiocy in Raleigh has apparently not been reined in yet - or even slowed down much.
The community organizer must have gotten a new speech writer. Otherwise, how could he be changing the tune quite so smoothly.
Early in the week of 6/19, the Prez was finding fault with ATMs and Kiosks in airports where you could check in and print your own tickets etc. because, according to him, they cost us jobs.
Government uses taxes for two broad purposes. The first is to collect revenue that the legislative branch appropriates to run the government. The second is to motivate behavior the government favors.
